Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:

My batter is too thick. What should I do?

Add a little water gradually and mix until it reaches a thick yet pourable consistency.

Can I use fresh curd instead of sour curd?

Yes, but sour curd enhances the flavor and helps make the dosa fluffier.

How long can I rest the batter before cooking?

Since it’s an instant dosa, you can cook it immediately after mixing, but resting for 5–10 minutes can help flavors blend.

Is tempering necessary?

Yes, it adds aroma and crunch to the dosa. Skipping it will make the dosa taste plain.

Can I skip curry leaves?

Yes, but you’ll miss out on the authentic South Indian flavor.

Why is my dosa not turning fluffy?

Add baking soda only just before cooking, and make sure the pan is at medium heat.

How do I prevent the dosa from sticking to the pan?

Use a well-greased non-stick or seasoned cast iron pan, and cook on medium heat.

Can I make bun dosa without oil?

You can reduce the oil, but a small amount is needed for flavor and to avoid sticking.
